THE DR. began business in 1988. In those years we were known as Dr. Volvo. Over the years there have been many changes, but the one constant has been, and always will be, quality of service. Our average employee has been with us almost 14 years. We have the same ownership and several employees have been here over 19 years. We take great pride in our continuity of customers as well as employees.
In 1991 we changed our name to Dr. Volvo Independent Service because of pressure from Volvo of North America. We outgrew our small, 1800 sq. ft shop in 1993 and moved to a 10,000-sq. ft. shop. In 1994 Volvo of North America took us to Federal Court claiming our name violated their trademark. They tried to deny us using Volvo in our name. We were in Federal Court for 2 years and ultimately reached a settlement, mostly in response to our customers’ letters, which were sent to Volvo of North America, objecting to their unconscionable lawsuit. In settlement, we changed our name to THE DR. Volvo Specialist.
We added Lexus service and repair in 2001. Our name became THE DR. Lexus and Volvo Specialist. In 2003 we purchased our current 20,000-sq. ft. building and moved here March 1st, 2004. We are now located at 10900 Kalama River, 2 doors east of Fry’s Electronics, at Euclid and the 405 freeway. In 2005 we added BMW’s, Land Rovers, Mini Coopers and Mercedes Benz to our service line.
Beginning in 2009 THE DR. started servicing all Asian and European automobiles. We have the
qualified personnel to offer our same high standard of service for all these cars. We have also
purchased all the necessary factory software for proper diagnostics.

We changed our name, logo, slogan, and mission statement in 2006. Our name is now THE DR. Automotive Service. Our new logo is at the top of this web-site and our new slogan is “The Extraordinary Experience”. Our mission statement is “THE DR.’s true worth is determined by how much more we give in value than you make in payment”. We, at THE DR., are all committed to extend this extraordinary experience to every customer. We do not only want you to ask for this extraordinary experience, but to demand it.
